"Dixie's going Latin," Hispanic Magazine recently proclaimed, naming Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill the 10th best metropolitan area in the nation for Latinos to call home. According to the 2000 Census, the total population of Hispanics in Durham and Wake counties is 51,024, making up 5.9 percent of the total population.
